COLOUR TRENDS IN JEWELLERY DESIGN
"Monochrome" combinations of diamonds, white pearls, transparent quartz, black diamonds, black onyx and spinel with silver, white gold or platinum in futuristic designs or lending from the Art Deco period will dominate jewellery design 2010.
Green is a popular colour in jewellery design but right now it reigns, old favorites such as peridot or turquoise (mixed with red coral) remain on the fashion radar, but there are a few newcomers such as larimar, chrysoprase and amazonite adding a Caribbean feel to the palette.
And if you thought that emerald is an old fashioned gem found at upper class tea parties - think again. The queen of green gems is back and ready to conquer the contemporary jewellery design arena.
Prasiolite in shades of beautiful subtle moss greens is hugely popular at this stage as it offers a stunningly versatile green at a seriously reasonable price.
Fairly new on the block for 2010 are colours such as bronze, cognac and chocolate. Champagne & cognac diamonds and diamond beads dominate the top end market, champagne quartz and smokey quartz offer beautiful shades of brown in a more affordable price range.
BOLD, BOLDER, AND A LITTLE BIGGER PLEASE...
A ring covers a small section of one finger, right?! Wrong! Rings cover the entire length of a finger or reach across two fingers and sometimes the entire hand. Luxurious cocktail rings are a total must have!
Necklaces are luxurious, multi row, fabulous stories where gemstones meet metal, pearls & wood. Long, short, anything goes as long as it is bold.
Earrings are positively dangling and XXL long. Encrusted with stones, chandelier style or long simplistic drops.
We @ ANPA really enjoy this trend and love working with big gems in a big way…
FLORAL JEWELLERY DESIGN
Maybe because life is all about balance or because we all love Tricia Guild but surely floral patterns and designs are returning once more.
Dress rings, no doubt in bold flower designs or floral patterns are seriously sought after.
Recently the trend has reached the holy gates of marriage and we are creating quite a few floral engagement ring designs, inclusive floral eternity rings.
Very feminine, et tres chic...
JEWELLERY TREND: WOOD & METAL COMBINATIONS
No, not entirely new at all, but great ideas always come back. ANPA has translated this trend into beautiful wooden inlay rings and cufflinks. Specially popular for men's wedding bands as African Black Wood is hard wearing and more subtle than e.g. black onyx or diamonds.
But we also combine different types of wood and silver / gold in earring and pendant deisgns for ladies.
JEWELLERY TREND: THE RENAISSANCE OF COLOURED GEMSTONES
For years fine jewellery design was limited to white diamonds and a few precious gems such as ruby, emerald & blue sapphire. In recent years more and more jewellers as well as the public have started to appreciate the beauty of coloured gemstones
What a bliss for jewellery designers! The world of coloured gemstones offers a huge variety of textures, colours & fancy cut stones.
Even the diamond industry has picked up on this new trend and offers diamonds in various shades such as pink, blue, yellow.
Not to forget natural champagne or cognac diamonds - a stunning natural colour range that offers a good value for money alternative to traditional white diamonds.
JEWELLERY TREND: SILVER & GOLD COMBINATIONS
Lightness and bold shapes - opposites attract and unite effortlessly in silver jewellery. Silver jewellery exploits its full potential and displays a penchant for geometric shapes and architectural structures with imaginative pieces of jewellery. Of course there is no lack of colour here either… with stunning combinations of silver with layers of rich 24 carat gold.
White gold remains the favourite gold alloy in fine jewellery, but even here colours enter the arena: gold alloys that lead into various shades of grey, black, sand, red, green and of course yellow, and inject new excitement into jewellery design.
JEWELLERY TREND: MODERN PEARLS
Todays pearls are not just the sort your aunt would wear with her twinset: they've come over all casual. Hanging out on charm bracelets, strung loose on ribbons, some are interspersed with chain or gemstones. Pearls have forgotten about sitting modestly in neat rows and remembered that they are the ultimate bead...
