peridot

Gem-quality specimens of the mineral olivine are called peridot, and the yellower type, chrysolite, by gemmologists. Peridot has an olive- or bottle-green colour due to the presence of iron, and a distinctive oily or greasy lustre. Good quality crystals are very rare.

Peridot is one of the birthstones for August (with sardonyx), symbolising married happiness. Gemstone for Libras

Hardness: 6.5

Metaphysical Properties: Peridot can be used to magnify the inner aspects of any situation or circumstance. It furthers the understanding of those changes which are occurring in ones life and assists one in the recognition of the detrimental patterns which have been the basis for impairment in attaining that which is necessary for growth.

It also helps to heal a 'bruised' ego by assisting one in the lessening of anger or jealousy, inspiring happiness within the self and delight in the nature of ones life.

Peridot is an excellent healing stone, acting as a 'tonic' to both strengthen and regenerate the body. It can be used in the treatment of disorders of the heart, lungs, spleen and intestinal tract. It is also used to strengthen the eyesight in conditions of astigmatism and nearsighted-ness.

Occurrence: Peridot is found in South Africa, China, Burma, Brazil, Hawaii and Arizona (USA), Australia, and Norway. https://www.ecotonoha.com/ecotonoha.html
